Vote

Many of you have been asking about my involvement in the election since I've been abroad, so here's what's been going on in that part of my life:

I sent in my Absentee Ballot earlier this week! It was such a great feeling of empowerment to be able to send in my vote. Growing up (and up until this past year), I was never very interested in politics, because it was hard for me to understand it, to relate to it. I still have a hard time relating to some of the "bigger" issues of this election, but this being the first one that I'm able to vote in, I'm trying to stay involved and updated as best I can.

Woohoo!! I voted!!

The post office:

See the numbers inside? I didn't realize you needed to get a "ticket" with your number on it,
before waiting to be called. Eventually (*ahem* after 20 minutes...), I figured it out!
:)
It's interesting being abroad, because I don't get the full coverage or reactions from the Americans, more specifically the reactions of my friends and family. I've been watching the debates online - the first Presidential Debate was actually shown at the campus, and there was an American speaker there to help us get through it. The majority of the students were not pleased with either candidate. Then I did watch the VP debate online and kept thinking of certain characteristics and phrases that were being used by both Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. Just last night, I watched the SNL skit of this Debate and couldn't HELP but laugh and agree with all the hits they made at both candidates (and the moderator, Gwen Ifill). They really did an amazing job at capturing their idiosyncrasies perfectly. It's really funny to watch the spoof after the real thing, because you're thinking "yes! They were being that ridiculous!" but at the time, you just don't think of it like that. I heard the second Presidential Debate wasn't really worth watching... but I might watch it...just so I can watch the spoof later!

Watch:

Hope everyone is registered and ready to vote! It does make a difference!

Gill, Congratulations on voting for the first time in a presidential election! Every American citizen should vote, so I'm glad that you exercised that right. Amore, Dad.

Hey Gill, glad you voted!

It is not about who is winning or losing, it's about your personal rights our country fought so hard to get those many years ago and who you want to be in charge of our country. Good for you!

I am so jealous of your family going to visit you.... If the plane ride wasnt so long, I would be stowing away in the suitcase!!!! love your site... Aunt (:D
