When I become rich and famous, I'm buying this Villa. Or building my own. ;) It was beautiful. Everything was so green and the fountains were gorgeous! And very peaceful. It would be a nice place to bring a lunch and relax for a while.
We did think ahead, so after our nice tour of the Villa, we walked through the abandoned streets for a while (everyone was on their lunch break), until we found a cute restaurant to have lunch. We ate in the "garden" outside.
- Overlooking the pools -
- At the bottom -
- Gorgeous blue sky overlooking the city -
- Green! -
- Lucy and Sally! :) -
- The "Hydraulic Organ Fountain" - it actually played! -
- In front of the "hundred fountains."
(A little light - Can anyone fix that?) -
- The plaque roughly translate to, "Here, during his greatest years, worked Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt." Apparently, Cardinal d'Este hosted Liszt at his Villa quite often and in 1879, gave one of his final concerts. -
- Lunch; The streets of Tivoli -
It was a great day and it wasn't expensive or difficult to get to! And, okay...I admit, it was great to get away from the busy streets of Rome, even if just for a little while! :)
Ci vediamo!

gilly!!! you just told me you went to some town outside rome; you didn't tell me it was tivoli!! how freaking beautiful is that place? and how are there not more (or any) movies filmed there? it's so picturesque.
Oh gosh, yes! I know! It was so cute and peaceful!
Wait...so when and where did you go in Italy???
i did a program called the "rome festival" which had us in rome for two and a half weeks to be the opera chorus for a run of hansel and gretel. it was the summer after eighth grade. so i was mostly in rome, but i took day trips (scheduled, rigid and therefore mostly un-fun) to tivoli, capri... i think that's it. i didn't get to go to venice or pompeii (and i've wanted to go those places, especially pompeii, for my whole life), we didn't have any free time just to do what we wanted, and overall i did not enjoy the program. i didn't even appreciate italy until about four days before i left. now i want to go back under better circumstances.
